This school
year, Mcgehee School purchased a new vending machine with healthier snacks.
Before, there weren’t as many healthy snacks in the vending machine. After the switch, many more people were
buying things at it, which means there is more of a profit for the school.
“ I think it’s
good that they have healthier foods but still have things we like like chips
but try to chose ones with fewer calories,” Megan Mayeaux, a fifth grader, explained.
A bag of chips from the vending machine costs
$1.25 and is 120 calories. A bag of
chips from the store costs only $1.00 but is 290 calories. Three out of four
people interviewed said that they would rather have the chips out of the
vending machine.
After choosing
the vending machine chips, fifth grader, Lynn Marry Hammel said, “They’d be
better for you and its only a quarter more and it’d be the healthier choice.”
