Did you know that throwing beads at floats is illegal? Well technically
there are some exceptions. Many people don’t know about this law, maybe even
you! The law states that if there are no people on the float then you can throw
beads at it. It has been a law for over 10 years and many New Orleanais don’t
know about it.
Chris Beary, a New
Orleanian and float rider, said that he knew about the law but he didn’t think
that a lot of people knew about it. Carlota Pelikan, a Muses Rider, didn’t even know about the law. They thought that
not a lot of people know about the law. They also think that it is a good idea
to keep it. Beary had had a bead thrown at him and hit him but Pelikan
had never had that happen to her. They have both seen people get hit in the
face with a bead.
It is a good idea. People don’t know
about it yet but they should. I have ridden in tucks once but have not been hit
or thrown at by a bead or any other thing. At the beginning of parades they
should say no throwing beads at floats. The law should stay that way. Sometimes
people throw beads at the floats because they don’t like what they got from the
thrower. I knew about the law I just wanted other people to know.
The only time you can throw beads at
floats is if there are no riders in it. Some examples are Baby Kong, King Kong,
Mama Kong, The Sun, and the last float in Rex. Maybe the next time you think
about throwing a bead at a float, think about this.
