Coach Scotty’s Cross Country Experience

by Sylvie H.
Do you really know Coach Scotty? Well if you don’t, keep reading to find out about her, and even if you think you do, you don’t know everything.
Coach Scotty has been a Cross Country coach at Louise S. McGehee School for five years. She got interested in running in 7th grade when her coach saw her run the 800. She worked in Canada for two years as a P.E. coach for kindergarten through twelfth grades. She was also a science teacher for ninth through twelfth grades.
She said, “I like working with all girls on cross country because I can relate to them, and I also like seeing girls get the chance to be athletic.”
Coach Scotty said if you want to become a runner, to work hard, and that it will be hard in the beginning, but it will get easier as you proceed. She also believes it is important to stay motivated and believe in yourself.
Coach Scotty likes saying the quote, “The pain of discipline is less than the pain of regret.” She said she always says this to herself for inspiration.   Coach Scotty is quite an inspiration herself because she is a very accomplished runner and a very good and caring teacher.
