THE LOUISE S. MCGEHEE SCHOOL FOOD DRIVE

BY REBECCA G.

The Louise S. McGehee School had a food drive in January, 2013. They gave food to the Second Harvest organization. This was a big help to our community because the homeless need food and the Second Harvest food organization has true sympathy for these people, so they donate food to them.

There were 6 teams in this project. Second Harvest works with the homeless and helps them survive by giving them food. The homeless go to Second Harvest and get the food that they need.

This project helped the less fortunate in our community by giving them food to survive. People said that it was lots of fun being in charge of their grades food because they got to sing songs to help them bring in food. They had to get boxes to put the food in and type up some signs to put on the boxes to tell people to bring in the food. They had put lots of boxes outside one of the teachers at the school, Ms. Toomey’s room, and in the student’s homerooms. After a box was filled up they would count the food in the box, fold the box, and put an empty box on top.

This project would put two grades together and those two grades would become a team. Each team had a color and whatever color they were what color food they would bring.

I could tell these McGehee girls really care about these people because one of these kind hearted people gave in a big bag of rice that was estimated to about 50 pounds.
