Mardi Gras effecting schoolwork

by Chloe B.

If you go to school in Louisiana, you probably understand that when you have a parade on your mind, you aren’t going to be focused in class. You are thinking of how much stuff you are going to catch, and if you’re riding then you will never stop thinking of who you will see and what you will throw. This is why I interviewed some girls from McGehee Middle School. This school is on St. Charles right by where the parades roll and possibly distract the girls.

Sylvie Hunter a McGehee Middle School Fifth grader says she can’t have a good time because there is too much homework to enjoy the parades. She feels that there should be no tests on these days and very little homework. This would allow them to relax for a change. She said the homework is harder to focus on because you are itching to go to the parades.

Eliza Powers said that sometimes you don’t feel like doing the homework because you enjoy the parades too much.

Hunter said it would be a good idea to have field trips to the dens. This would be art and culture field trips.

Conery Schmidt agrees that they should have the field trips. These would give them possibly an art job (in the future) and they could experience our local traditions. There they could teach them about Mardi Gras( past, present, and future).

This would also be fun to have an art project that would reflect what they learned and saw at the den(s). They could have a history project on the history and culture of Mardi Gras. The ups and downs of the parades are affecting school, but I’m sure they can handle it. Plus they can have a fun project to work on.
