Lost and Found Overload

by Molly S.

Ever since the first day of school, the lost and found box was starting to fill up. Ms. Harlan, principal of McGehee middle school, says that all the clothes that aren’t claimed are sent to Goodwill if they aren’t McGehee uniforms so nothing is wasted. Ms. Harlan says that people lose sweatshirts, skirts, and even textbooks! The 6th graders used to be in charge of it but no one wanted the job and Ms. Harlan didn’t want a 6th grader to be forced into a job so they ended the job.

Evelyn Argote, a fifth grade student, said that she lost her sweatshirt and she would have to go through the lost and found every day after school,” It was a mess!” Evelyn added. Even with all the clothes in the lost and found box, Ms. Harlan said that she could never throw it out because someone can use it. It’s a shame because one of the reasons why the lost and found is overloaded is because some people don’t even check the lost and found so few people get back the stuff that they lost. This could be a problem because people are paying for things then losing them and not getting them back. I hope that more people think about the lost and found and try to check it daily. If everyone checks then there won’t be such a problem and that gives Ms. Harlan one less thing to worry about.
