The McGehee School Honor Code

by Kelsey R.
Middle School English teacher Megan Garriott says, “I think an Honor Code is absolutely necessary. It is a guideline for how to live an honorable life that others will respect. McGehee teachers, staff, and administration take very seriously their role in preparing young ladies to be responsible, trustworthy, caring individuals when they grow up to be the best versions of themselves. The Honor Code shows that students are trusted and most of them, as a result, behave in a trustworthy manner. If the students weren’t trusted, we would have a very different campus.”
Middle School Head, Connie Harlan says, “ I do not believe that all McGehee girls follow the Honor Code, but I do believe most McGehee girls follow the Honor Code.”
The Honor Code was established in 1921. McGehee girls signed the Honor Code in 2012. The Honor Code allows McGehee girls to believe in their selves and to become confident. In every classroom there is a sigh with the code on it. When McGehee girls disobey the Honor code they are punished with a detention, mark, or suspension depending on what the child did. This is also states that these McGehee girls will make a promise to the school and carry it throughout their lives.
